Religious Education

Welcome to the Religious Education department at First Unitarian Church of Hobart. Our programs and resources are for all ages, including a religious education program for children, as well as Spirit Circle and First Hour for the adults of our congregation. First hour is a weekly forum for topics of Unitarian life, social justice, and current issues, and takes place in our parish hall. Spirit Circle concentrates on spiritual topics and how they affect how we live our Unitarian Universalist lives, and takes place in our lower level. Our programs are designed to nurture Unitarian Universalist identity, spiritual growth, a transforming faith, and vital communities of justice and love. Our RE programs run from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Sundays, before the service. Service commences at 11 a.m., with a social coffee hour following at 12 p.m.

Currently we are using a curriculum called "Character Counts" for children's religious education. Character Counts are lessons and activities around six pillars of character-trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Our teachings are related back to our seven principles which guide Unitarian Universalists. This program is for all kindergarten and elementary school children.
