Some have had confusion about how to join church services/meetings on Zoom. Below are some basic instructions. You can go to the main Zoom website page at zoom.com. This will automatically direct you to Zoom’s US page, assuming you want to attend a meeting in your own country. Click the link near the top that says, [Join A Meeting].
From the general [Join A Meeting] page, you can enter the meeting ID, which is the church phone number – 219 942 1611.
Instead, though, you can go directly to the UU church meeting website at zoom: zoom.us/j/219-942-1611
This is the link for all services and most online meetings. It is best to bookmark/save this address in your browser. The first time, you will need to click on the [Launch Meeting] button, but after that, it will likely launch the meeting for you .
The last step is to enter password, giving you permission to join. For all services, the password is the church zip code: 46342.
Now, you will be asked if you want your camera turned on, so others can see you – this is optional. You can still participate. You will also be asked if you want your microphone turned on, so others can hear you. Depending on which meeting you join, your microphone may be turned off by the meeting host.
For example, discussion is encouraged during First Hour and Coffee Hour, so you will probably want your microphone on. During the main Sunday Service, though, the meeting manager will turn off all microphones except the speaker’s.
